Description
The Board Records, and those of the board committees, have been retained by Glaxo Smith Kline. Please note that Board records would only have been produced from the time of the creation of the limited company in 1924. Prior to this the company records are those of a partnership and sole owner - hence the majority of records surviving from 1880-1924 are operational or personal correspondence. Also as the company was owned by one shareholder (The Wellcome Trust) the early minutes are likely to be summary in nature. The records retained by Glaxo Smith Kline include the Board Minutes & Papers, the majority of Shareholders Records and Statutory books, and records of subsidiary companies and overseas concerns.
The surviving records are primarily those personal files series of the Founders and Executive Directors: Henry Solomon Wellcome, Silas Mainville Burroughs, Frederick Belding Power, W Lloyd Williams, William J Horton, George Edward Pearson, Henry Hallett Dale, H A D Jowett, Robert Clay Sudlow, Sir John Vane, Michael Perrin, T. R. G. Bennett and Thomas Nevin.
