    Wilsons Improvements in Trusses. NOW KNOW YE, that in compliance with the said proviso, I, the said James Wilson, do hereby declare that the nature of my said Invention, and the manner in which the same is to be performed, are fully described and ascertained in and by the following statement thereof, reference being had to the Drawing hereunto annexed, and to the figures and letters marked thereon, 5 that is to say :— My Invention consists in so forming a truss that after ascending from the front pad, the spring passes above and rests on the hip of the wearer, and then descends downwards, so as to come below the top of the hip, and terminates at the back of the person, thus admitting of greater freedom of action without IQ liability to derangement of the truss, and without allowing any escape of the hernia. And in order that my Invention may be most fully understood and readily carried into effect, I will proceed to describe the means pursued by me. Description of the Drawing. Figure 1 shows a side view or outline of a person wearing a truss con¬ structed according to my Invention ; Figure 2 shows a back view in outline of a person wearing a truss according to my Invention; and Figure 3 shows a front view in outline of a person wearing a truss according to my Invention ; and Figures 4, 5, 6, show respectively a side view, a back view, and a front 20 view of a truss constructed according to my Invention, a being the front pad, which is similar to those of other trusses, and is to be varied according to the nature of the hernia as heretofore; b is the spring or elastic portion of the truss, which is of steel; it has at its front end the pad a, and up to the point where it passes above the hip it does not materially differ from other trusses 25 heretofore made, but having arrived near the top of the hip it is so formed or bent as to curve above the hip bone and to descend a short distance, and then to pass behind the person, by which not only may a truss be very light and not visible external of the dress, but the same will admit of great freedom of the limbs and body, enabling the wearer to participate in active exercises 30 without altering the position of the truss or allowing any escape of the hernia, and even in the event of a fall no injury will arise to the person by want of sufficiency of the truss, c is a belt or elastic spring strap for keeping on the truss ; this strap or belt is not claimed separately, and other means may be resorted to for retaining the truss in its place. 35 Having thus described the nature of my Invention, and the manner of performing the same, I would have it understood that I do not confine myself to the details as herein given so long as the peculiar character of my Invert
