Description

Small sketchbook containing drawings made by L S Penrose while he was serving with the Friends' Ambulance Train in northern France during the First World War. Includes drawings of Amiens, Vecquemont, Doingt, Templeaux, Ypres, Abbeville, Rouen, Coutrai [Kortrijk], Marcoing, and the Friends' Ambulance Train no. 5. Mostly pencil drawings, some with colour, some in pastel.



A Christmas card dated 1949, a greetings card from Friends' Ambulance Train no. 5, and a print of a woodcut portrait are tucked inside the back cover.
