About this work

Description

4 March, 1940. Sydney, New South Wales, R H Harrowell to W E O Walker-Leigh, in which Harrowell, as Managing Director in Australia, frankly surveys his staff with a view to succession on his retirement: "it would ease my mind if I placed you in possession of my views of the position that would be created if anything should unexpectedly happen to me."

With a Minute extract (War Committee, 4 April) referring to the letter, and a copy of Walker-Leigh's reply (30 April), appreciative of the "loyal sentiment" that prompted the letter.

29 December, 1947. Sydney, New South Wales, R H Harrowell to H Tansley Witt: "It is impossible to describe my feelings in handing over the management of this Company, but Anno Domini must be served, and I do hope that in my capacity as Chairman I will be able to assist in the Company's problems, particularly during the difficult years which lie immediately ahead."
