Description
Summons. On 28 February, 1919, Florence Hilton "did unlawfully use an acetylene head light on a motor car on a public highway, the diameter of glass of which exceeded 5 inches. Contrary to the Lights (Vehicles) Order dated 16 December, 1918." Summonsed to appear at Marylebone Police Court on 20 March, 1919.
Summons. On 28 February, 1919, Sir Richard Cooper "did unlawfully aid and abet one Florence Hilton in the commission of an offence...." Summonsed to appear at Marylebone Police Court on 20 March, 1919.
With a letter (18 March) from Florence Hilton to the Magistrate stating she is unable to attend ("too ill with influenza"), a postcard from Cooper to solicitor A R Chamberlayne stating that the diameter of the headlight in question is 6¼ inches, and a brief note from Cooper's Secretary to Chamberlayne enclosing Hilton's Driving Licence (not present).
