The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Letine is dressed as a French soubrette or showgirl, and may indeed be French or Belgian. The'Entente Cordiale' between Britain and France reached a height in 1908 with the opening of the enormously successful Franco-British Exhibition, and many French theatrical performers enjoyed a surge popularity in London."
