Description

Plaster mould of two men of the Arrernte people, also known as Aranda or Arunta, a group of Aboriginal Australian people living in the Arrernte lands in central Australia. The sculpture was made by Jane Jackson in 1942. It was previously part of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum but is now held by the Science Museum (object number A654548). It is possibly based on a photograph published in Spencer, Baldwin and Gillen, F. J: The northern tribes of central Australia, London: Macmillan and Co.; New York : The Macmillan Company, 1927.
