Biographical note

The IEA entered into official relationship with the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a Non-Govermental Organisation (NGO) in 1966.

After a long history of ad-hoc collaboration, a more organised approach was instigated in 1975, with the IEA Council constituted to enable representation from each of the six WHO Regions, and the Liaison Committee, established in 1974, to work more closely with WHO staff at Headquarters and Regional offices.

In May 1977, Dr. M. G. Candau, Director-General Emitrius of WHO, was elected Honoray Member of the IEA. By this time, the IEA had worked closely with the WHO in the delivery of its educational programme of Regional seminars, symposia and workshops.
