Biographical note
Gastro-Entérologie (OMGE), the World Organisation of Gastroenterology, was founded in Paris in 1954 by Dr. Henry L. Bockus and a group of distinguished international gastroenterologists. It is a federation of national societies and associations of gastroenterology, and was constituted in Washington DC in 1958. The first president was Dr. H. L. Bockus. In 1980 the OMGE Governing Board instituted a medal award as a memorial to Henry L. Bockus, it was awarded for the first time in 1982 to Francis Avery Jones.
