    done to alleviate his sufferings. In the treatment of this case alone St. Giles’ Homes have more than justified their existence. Another Patient, a young unmarried man, was received in June, and has lately shown considerable improvement in health. Our gardener, King, who has served us well ever since the property was first acquired, was called up for Military Service in November, so that Brother Stephen has now the whole charge of the place on his hands, without any paid help whatever. The Mortgage of ^1,000 on the property has been paid off by means of a loan from the Capital & Counties Bank, secured by the personal guarantee of the Directors. In the autumn an appeal was issued for funds towards the repay¬ ment of this overdraft, with the result that the sum of ^190 was raised. ^50 of Miss Erskine’s loan has also been repaid. The Directors wish to express their gratitude to the Right Hon. John Burns and the Trustees of the Strathcona Bequest for their generous grant of ^250. Mr. Burns visited Moor House in July, and has since taken a great and helpful interest in the welfare and management of the Homes.
