The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "The fifteen-year old Douglas Byng in 1911. This is the earliest known drag photograph of one of the most renowned British drag performers of the twentieth century. He wears high Edwardian dress and accessories, photographed at his middle-class family home in Nottinghamshire, where his father was a bank-manager."
