Description

Thyateira (also Thyatira), the former name of the later Turkish city of Akhisar ("White castle"). It lies in the far west of Turkey, south of Istanbul and almost due east of Athens. In the print, a funeral cortege carries a corpse from the town towards Tepe Mezarlığı (meaning hill graveyard) on which two Turkish women sit next to a grave pit waiting for the cortege
