Civil Defence—Casualty Services. The Services for which the Department was responsible were as set out in the Annual Report for 1943. On November 15th, the King's Hill and Mesty Croft First Aid Posts were closed and the personnel were accorded the Authority’s thanks for their long ' and devoted service. The whole of the personnel very loyally agreed to place their services again at the Town’s service should the need arise. The Baths First Aid Post and the Public Gas Cleansing Station remain as active units. Since the outbreak of war on 3rd September, 1939, to the 31st December, 1944, representatives of the Department attended at the Control Centre during 363 “ Alert ” periods. Civil Ambulances. During 1944 the Civil Ambulances responded to 1,189 calls.
