Description
Bible. O.T. 1 Samuel 17. The letters 'Re' on the print refer to 'Regum', the Latin name of the book. Goliath's elaborate armour is decorated with demonic forms and visages. At its centre is a figure stretched out in cruciform position. The handle of his sword is fashioned like an eagle's head, with a ring through its beak

Nimquid canis ego sum ut baculo ad me venias. Ego inquit David hodie auferam caput tuum a te. 1. Re. 17
The first clause of the quotation is from verse 43 of 1 Samuel 17: "Am I a dog that thou comest to me with staves" (although we see no staves in evidence here). The second clause is from verse 46, where David replies, "[I] will take thine head from thee"
