Description
In the top scene (Bible O.T. Numbers 5) a woman is undergoing the "ordeal of the waters of bitterness" - if a jealous man suspects his wife of adultery he can request a trial to prove her guilt or innocence. According to Numbers 5 the floor of the temple is swept and the dust is added to water and the wife is then made to drink it, if she is unaffected by the water she is innocent, if she is not then pronounced guilty
