Lipomatosis of exocrine tissue in the pancreas

A photomicrograph of a section of the pancreas, showing lipomatosis of the exocrine tissue. The brown areas are islets of Langerhans. The exocrine tissue is gradually being replaced by swollen adipocytes, which appear whitish. There is also some adipose deposition in the islets. The degree of adipose tissue deposition is proportional to the BMI. Such a condition is not clinically evident as an exocrine pancreatic disease.
