EXPERIMENT THE TWENTY-FIRST. The evaporation of the water (expe¬ riment 19th) afforded a very different refult; when it was reduced to about two drachms, there appeared upon the furface a thin faline pellicle, which, from its difficult folubility and infipidity, and more efpecially from its affording a pre¬ cipitate as well on the addition of acid of fugar as muriated barytes, proved to be felenite. This continued to feparate from the liquor till the whole was evaporated to drynefs, when it was found that, be- lides the felenite, there remained a fmall proportion of common fait, too fmall to be eilimated by the balance, but per¬ fectly diftinCt to the tafte, and appearing in wrell defined cubes when a drop of the folution was placed under the mi¬ cro fc ope.
