About this work
Description
The seventh in a 10-part series investigating diseases from around the globe. Each programme features a single disease and looks at attempts to develop treatments that are effective and affordable to the world's poor who make up the majority of the victims. This part features Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), the so-called 'superbug', resistant to most antibiotics. People who have contracted the disease describe how it affected them and we hear about the measures being taken by doctors to fight the infection. The possibility of finding a new medicine from the natural world is described and shown by Professor Monique Simmonds.
