About this work

Description

Close-up of tree with dark green shiny-lobed leaves and pear-shaped uripe green fruits. These contain psoralens which can intercalate DNA and, in a reaction with ultra-violet light, cause skin photosensitivity disorders. Sap from leaves contains chymase, lipase, amylase and protease and a diastasic enzyme. This sap has been used to aid the maturation of freshly-killed meat.
