Description
Woodcut from Jiangxueyuan gufang xuanzhu (An Annotated Selection of Ancient Prescriptions from the Crimson Snow Garden), published in 1737 (2nd year of the Qianlong reign period of the Qing dynasty) -- chart showing the significance of two stars, Tianshu (Dubhe, a UMa) and Tianxuan (Merak), for healing by invocation. Astrology was used to establish the causes of disease, in order to proceed to further prayers and sacrifices.
