The author was known by several names, and had been involved in various financial frauds. Rudd was her husband's name, Stewart her mother's. On the basis of the Stewart name the author had invented a noble pedigree (see p. 4) which was authenticated by the Lyon Office in Scotland. She then wrote to Lord Rawdon, claiming a relationship and asking for money. He did not believe her, hence this tract directed against him
