About this work

Description

The 5th part of an 8-part series in which Dr. Alice Roberts, doctor and anatomist, explores the workings of the human body. This part looks at the workings of the ears, nose and throat. DJ and record producer Danny Byrd plays music so loudly and so frequently that he's damaging his ears; he has his hearing tested professionally. Audiologist Dunja Nieuwoudt shows how the ear hears and Roberts undergoes various tests which show the relationship between the ears and the other sensory organs. The importance of the sense of smell to the sense of taste is demonstrated and sleep apnea treatments are shown as this is a complication brought about from a faulty mechanism in the throat.
