Description

Ceres, goddess of agriculture was searching for her daughter Proserpine who had been carried off by Pluto, god of the underworld. In this composition, Ceres is seen relieving her thirst by drinking from a flask provided by an old woman. The old woman's son Stelio accused Ceres of being greedy and was promply turned into a lizard
