Naomi Kiely has an aggressive form of cancer and can't receive Avastin, a drug which is her last chance. NICE have to approve the use of the drug and then it depends on the primary care trust itself as to whether they will fund the drug in an exceptional circumstance. Manchester seems to be a particularly reluctant primary care trust, unfortunately this is where Naomi lives. Anand Sharma is in a very similar situation to Naomi and if he offers to pay for Avastin privately he will be forced to also pay for all his treatment, no longer entitled to receive anything on the NHS.
