About this work
Description
Sally Magnussen reports the superbug Clostridium difficile which is currently causing four times more deaths per year in hospitals than MRSA. There is much focus on the 027 strain which is particularly virulent and caused the deaths of 90 pensioners in the Kent and Sussex Hospital as well as many others at hospitals within the Maidstone and Tumbridge Wells Trust. Staff and managers from the Trust talk about how the infestation was first noticed and how they have been fighting to eradicate the virus from their wards. The relatives of victims who have succumbed to the infection tell their stories. The programme provides much valuable information about this recent threat to the lives of the vulnerable in British hospitals.
