About this work
Description
Jazz saxophonist and composer, Barbara Thompson, is fighting Parkinson's Disease. This documentary follows her life over a five-year period with husband, Jazz drummer, John Hiseman. The programme balances the effects of Parkinson's on Barbara's continuing musical and composing career with her visits to hospitals and discussions about cures and her relationship with John. Out of the treatments Barbara considers, she opts against deep brain surgery but for a subcutanous treatment of apomorphine which, unfortunately, takes a year to be provided. It has incredible effects and Barbara embarks on her first tour for years.
