Vianello, Jacobus

License to practise Pharmacy granted by the Collegium Aromatariorum of Venice. Two full-page water-colour illustrations of Christ and of Justice: on the verso of the second leaf the Lion of St. Mark in gold. Signed 25 November, 1722, at the end of the text by: Semitocolo (Bernardo), Balli (Daniel), Maligo (Godofredo), Benzon (Marco). Attested 26 April, 1755 by Andrianus Protophysicus Generalis and Andrea Canova, Notary. The single folio sheet bound in after the text is dated 26 February, 1710, and is a copy of a certificate that Vianello had satisfied the examiners, and is qualified to practise pharmacy: it is signed by the heads of the eight Pharmacy Guilds: Zopelli (Giovanni Battista), Nizzero (Paolo), Mariani (Antonio), Borello (Santes), Garagnin (Domenego), Maggi (Antonio), Trutinoti (Bernardo), Lizzari (Steffano). These signatures are attested 'Alla presenza di Me Giacinto [Berni?] Specier al San Valentin scontro del Colleggio'. Produced in Venice.

1 volume 4 ll. + 1 l. 4to. 221/2 × 16 cm. On vellum. Blind-stamped calf binding, with arabesque decoration in the Venetian style: two cord ties defective. Text in gold and black within gold rules.

Pasted on the first fly-leaf is a slip inscribed 'Alex. Boswel. Lut[etiae] Par[isiorum]. 1729', who is Alexander Boswell [1706-1782], father of James Boswell [1740-1795] the biographer. From the Library of Joseph Frank Payne [1840-1910], and No. 200 in Sotheby's Catalogue.
