About this work
Description
The media sensationalises mental health issues using demeaning language - loony, psycho, sex fiend. Special hospitals, such as Broadmoor, are stigmatised. The media tends to focus on stories about individuals so as to shock, but these stories are probably unrepresentative. In the news, 'Mad equals Bad', and mental illness is often associated with violence.
