About this work

Description

"In Another Way of Thinking the reader is introduced to Julius Szymanowski (1829-1868). Being born in Riga in a family of impoverished Polish nobility, Szymanowski nethertheless got an excellent education in Reval (Tallinn) and a medical and surgical training at the famous university of Dorpat (Tartu). At the age of 29 he became professor extraordinarius in Helsingfors (Helsinki) and a few years later professor at the St Vladimir University in Kiev. The highlight of the numerous publications of multitalented Szymanowski is the book Operations on the surface of the human body (1865), in which he introduced conceptual thinking in plastic reconstructive surgery."--From cover.
