About this work
Description
How to teach school children about genetic selection or engineering? The Y Touring company is currently taking the play 'The Gift' around schools in Northumberland. The lead character in the play has discovered that his father selected him genetically, screening out the family's inherited disorder, Friedrich's Ataxia, from which his aunt had died. This provokes heated debate about rare diseases, recessive genes and the ethics of genetic selection. The play was a success with the students.
