About this work
Description
In November 2005, surgeons in France performed the first partial face transplant on a woman who had been mauled by her dog. This programme investigates the implications of such procedures as well as exploring the advances currently being made in current facial reconstructive surgery. His studio guest is Mr. Peter Butler, consultant plastic surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital in London. The discussion also covers the risks involved in such drastic surgery - both physical and psychological, and questions whether or not people would be willing to list themselves as facial donors even if prepared to donate their other organs.
