About this work
Description
The letter (actually several, with replies from Sir Edward Lugard) refers to his research and discovery that cholera is invariably preceded by a diarrhoea and if that can be cured the patient may be saved. Earlier outbreaks of the disease across the world (India, Crimea, Mauritius etc.) are referred to and the therapies used (calomel, opium). He maintains that there is a link between laxatives, diarrhoea and cholera and that the British Army is not doing enough to save their soldiers from this disease.
