BAFTA Award-wining series on the 20th century rise and influence of science and technology, with particular reference to the U.S.A., Russia and Britain. The series has relatively little medical content but is of the greatest interest to historians of science and technology as a chronicle of 20th century technological folies de grandeur and related political delusions. "Part 4: Goodbye Mrs. Ant" The story of the rise and fall of DDT. First introduced as a pesticide after the second World War, DDT was at first regarded as a godsend by farmers who had previously suffered ruinous crop infestations, but was later denounced as poisoning the environment. The film vividly portrays the battle of the scientists who promoted DDT and the scientists who condemned it.
