"The translated and edited journals of a young German barber-surgeon recording his travels across Germany and the Netherlands and time spent on Dutch and Brandenburg slave ships sailing to the Caribbean and Africa from 1682 to 1696. He observes shipboard life, trade in Africa, the horrors of the Middle Passage, and the sale of slaves in the Caribbean.
