Part Two. Juliet Singer visits young patients at the Tavistock & Portman Centre to share their experiences suffering from mental illnesses. Singer interviews a teenager who attends group sessions at The Tavistock Clinic due to anxiety about the emotional wellbeing of her adolescent friends. Consultant Psychologist Lavern Antrobus discusses how much of a concern she believes teenage self-harm to be. Singer talks to Consultant Systemic Psychotherapist Laura Glendinning, one of her patients, who suffers from depression, and the patient’s mother. They discuss the benefits of Family Therapy, and Glendinning discusses her views on why teenagers self-harm. Head of Adolescent and Young Adult Service at The Tavistock Clinic Emil Jackson discusses the multifarious issues parents face in understanding their children’s development in the modern world. Director, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Rita Harris discusses her concerns about the digital world in relation to children’s mental and emotional wellbeing. Singer interviews Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist Dr Andy Wiener and one of his patients, who suffers from depression and anxiety. Singer interviews Clinical Psychologist Gillian Hughes and one of her patients, who suffers from anxiety and extreme panic attacks due to an abusive home life. They discuss the patient’s motivations for undergoing therapy, what types of therapy were introduced and its benefits. Head of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at The Tavistock Clinic Sarah Wynick discusses the advantage of the developmental pathway in treating adolescents.
