Description
Transmission electron micrograph showing the
degeneration of the myelin sheath surrounding a
nerve fibre in the scleral stroma. This disruption
is occurring at the site of ulceration due to the
disease necrotising scleritis and may in part
explain the painful symptoms. The field is
approximately 4 microns across.
