Receipt-Book, Italian: 16th century

Collection of medical, chemical, cookery and domestic receipts: with some 'Secrets' and 'Experiments'; in Italian and Latin, by several hands. On p. 135 is a pen and wash drawing of a 'Palla artificiale': and on p. 222 a pen-drawing of a candle-lantern with a long glass used to attract fish under water. At the end are some short articles on special topics: Pp. 117-198 Trattato de vini. 199-204 Trattato de gl'aceti. 205-216 Trattato di far varie sorte de pane et altre cose da magnare [sic]. 217-228 Trattato di pigliar i pesci [et] ogni sorte di ucelli. There are some additions by somewhat later hands.

1 volume 1 l. + pp. 15-234 + 11 ll. (last 7 bl.). 8vo. 17 x 111/2 cm. Original vellum binding. Pp. 1-14, 125/6, 139/40 are missing.
