Previous title, replaced December 2023 : Several physicians examining a patient who is lying on a wooden table. Engraving.
Description
An episode in: Royall Tyler, The Algerine captive: or the life and adventures of Doctor Updike Underhill, chapter XX. The patient is "a man whose leg was said to be broken by a fall from a frame at a raising". He is attended by a man "from the vicinity" in New England who was practising as a physician, though untrained, and who sets the leg with a bone from a corset, defending his procedure with irrelevant quotations in dog-Latin. Underhill examines the leg and finds no fracture, only a bruising of the knee
