About this work

Description

This is a promotional leaflet for Vim scouring powder issued by Lever Brothers Limited as a magazine insert (printed independently and then bound in by the publishers), possibly in the 1920s. The front has a colour cartoon illustration of the little man (leprachaun?) commonly used as a Vim trademark at the time. He has a large bow round his neck and a stove pipe hat made from a Vim canister and is standing in front of a telescope made from the 3 sizes of Vim canisters placed end to end and pointed at a full moon in a starry dark blue sky. The detergent is called "a household treasure" and was a popular cleaning product for polishing metalware, crockery, tiles and woodwork. This is number 23 in a series of advertisements, the others being presumably inserted in previous issues of the magazine (clearly a popular one aimed at the general public) where this one came from.
