Bible. N.T. Revelation 1.16; 19.15. Lennep explains the alchemical significance of this image thus: "Le Fils de l'Homme (le mercure) se tient entre sept chandeliers (les esprits qui fixent l'or. Le glaive sortant de sa bouche est expliqué comme étant à la fois le fer ou Mars, et l'eau dissolvante" (ibid., p. 143)
