The head at the top of the plate is the reverse of one that originally appeared as an illustration to the third fascicle of Albrecht von Haller's Icones anatomicae (Göttingen 1743-1756), engraved by George Daniel Heumann (1691-1759) after a drawing by C. J. Rollinus, who is described on the plates as a doctor of medicine
