About this work
Description
Richard Dawkins presents this documentary about alternative medical practice. He claims that health care has become a battle ground between reason and superstition and furthermore that alternative medicine is an attack on science - scares such as the recent fear of a link between the MMR jab and autism de-value evidence and put our whole community at risk. Dawkins tries out a variety of alternative therapies and interviews the therapists including Elisis Livingstone a faith healer in Glastonbury who believes we should re-write the structure of DNA according to a DNA structure that existed in Atlantis, Manjir Samanta-Laughton who treats the chakras of the body, kinesiologist Franky Kossy and Deepak Chopra who boasts Michael Jackson as a client for his quantum theory approach to health. Under particular attack from Dawkins is the practice of homeopathy and he spends time with Peter Fisher at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital. Michael Baum seconds Dawkins' frustration with the fact that new Western medicines are so lengthily and rigorously checked while alternative treatments slip into public use without proper clinical trials. This programme presents a thorough critique of complementary medicines albeit from an openly sceptical stance.
