An elaborately carved pipe. the bowl is made of burnt clay. a woman is represented holding a bowl on which her lord's pipe rests, typifying the servile position of woman. such pipes are very uncommon; none but chiefs or near relatives are allowed to smoke them. native tobacco when properly cured is fairly good.
