About this work
Description
This film shows, in often quite graphic detail, a range people from different walks of life who have needed plastic surgery. They are all war victims, mostly civilian casualties. Ministry of Health adviser Sir Harold Gillies stands in a room and explains the Service's work and organization. Then each casualty speaks frankly to camera about their case histories. These are both informative and moving as they describe how they got their injuries. In some of the cases there is description about the surgical procedures used to improve their condition. Additional commentary is provided by the Consultant Advisor on plastic and maxillo-facial surgery in the Ministry of Health Emergency Medical Service.
