About this work

Description

Diecut trade card advertising Lever Brothers' Sunlight Soap. The front shows a young man with red hair (and red lips) wearing a yellow and red waistcoat, white shirt and green striped trousers reading a poster illustrated in perspective, 'Sunlight' at the top (white out of red) and 'Soap' at the bottom (white with red drop shadow out of black). The main title is interspersed with blocks of text in small type, claiming that too much "filthy steam" from laundry ages women and that Sunlight Soap can avoid this. The reverse has a silhouette of Queen Victoria, who has "conferred upon the manufacturers" a "special royal warrant".
