Description

This is a sample book containing 171 samples of "étiquettes à bocaux", or pharmaceutical drug jar labels, consisting of a 'scrapbook' (124 x 184 mm) of 80 leaves with 171 samples of colour, silver and gold printed labels pasted in, with tissue interleaving. The inside cover has a chart for estimating the correct label for various sizes of drug jar. The inside back cover has a list of modèles with prices per 100, the later examples priced in manuscript. It is issued by Guyard et Hagemeyer of 31, rue Van Artevelde, Brussels with some labels printed by E. Pécheux of Paris.

Notes

Guyard et Hagemeyer were a major Belgium manufacturer of glassware, porcelain, appliances and utensils for pharmacies and laboratories. They carried away prizes for their work with gold medal, at Brussels in 1888, silver at Paris in 1880 and bronze at Antwerp in 1885, and probably a prize at the 1900 Paris Exposition too.
