Description
According to William of Malmesbury, King Edgar intended to marry Elfrida, but Athelwold, by a deception, married her first. When meeting Edgar, Elfrida was instructed by Athelwold to appear as ugly as possible, but she did the reverse. Edgar killed Athelwold and married Elfrida
