Acquisition note
Purchased at various times and places: Sotheby's, London, July 1931 (acc. 67540) and July 1932 (acc.65270E); Glendining's, London, December 1931 (acc.67595), March 1932 (acc.67624), September 1932 (acc.67720), August 1934 (acc.67863B) and May 1935 (acc.68608); from Mrs. Watson, Burnley, March 1945 (acc.72200), presumably once part of the Thomas Madden Stone autograph collection. Provenance details are not recorded for one item (acc.67430); for another accession the date and place of purchase are given as Hertzberger, Amsterdam, May 1930 (acc.62805) but the description does not tally with the item bearing that number in this folder.
