About this work

Description

He stands at a lectern reading La chasse heureuse, Acte II: the play appears to be fictitious, but as Goez was a playwright and a member of the Munich theatrical world, it could be a reference to an unpublished play. The volume containing the play is illustrated with an engraving of a scene. Hanging from the side of the lectern is a theatrical mask, while on shelves inside it books are stored. A dog sleeps at its master's feet
