About this work

Description

Sprig of twig with yellow linear petal and straggly autumn flowers. Known for the astringent extract of leaves and bark used in over the counter preparations to treat bruises and strains. Rich in tannin, it has also been used to treat varicose veins and red rashes. A native tree of North America, it was imported into Europe in 1735.
